When Donna Karan New York released her first line of women’s clothing in 1985, who would have been able to foresee that years later her DKNY bedding line would be in so much demand! Donna Karan began working at Liz Claiborne in her younger years and by 1970 got a job, through her mother, as an intern. In 1971, Donna was promoted to associate designer of the Anne Klein division, and by 1974 was the head designer. In 1984 Donna left Anne Klein and together with her husband launched her first line of clothing by 1985. Initially famous for her lines of elastic body suits. Her clothes were considered ‘power dressing’ for the ever more prominence of women entering the workplace in the 1980’s.

The Signature Collection

In 1988 the Donna Karan Signature Collection expanded to a new line called DKNY. The DKNY label was such a hit that from 1991 to 1995 the company’s sales rose more than 500%! By the late 1980’s DKNY had released their bedding collection. They were inspired by such picturesque themes as Pure Rustic White, Pure Rustic Ivory, Pure Wildflower and Canyon Floral. In fact the idealism of ‘pure’ and ‘purity’ in their designs is a true reoccurring theme in their bedding will be found in many of their colors are solid blues, bronzes and champagnes.
